Tuckwell Open-Air Theatre Festival 2026: Theatre of Dreams

Brought up in genteel Edwardian Cheltenham in a house near Pittville Pump rooms, Rowena Cade was educated at the prestigious Cheltenham Ladies College. In her teens as World War 1 broke out, she chose to break in Canadian horses in nearby Prestbury Park for the war effort.

So why then did she leave her genteel life in Cheltenham behind to buy a Cornish headland for £100?

Together with her gardener Billy, they worked endlessly, transforming a gorse and rocky Cornish cliff-face into an open-air theatre with just hand tools and an occasional stick of dynamite.

The Minack is a living theatre in every sense.  Its dramatic setting is breathtaking in any weather and the remarkable woman who built it is equally inspiring.

This play written by local Playwright Rachel Tobin is performed by actors from Malvern Skyline Productions and produced and directed by Rachel. Previous plays performed to sell out audiences, include ‘The Last Free Rave’ and ‘Malvern’s Secret War Heroes’.
