Open-air theatre
Since the creation of the Cheltenham Open-Air Theatre Festival in 2004, the Tuckwell Amphitheatre has played host to some cracking festivals of live theatre over the summer.
The Tuckwell Amphitheatre is an idyllic spot for a fantastic night of entertainment on a balmy summer’s night; the space is beautiful, romantic and comfortable and with some of the best open-air performances lined-up, year after year, it is no wonder so many people block off the two and a half weeks in July and August, a year in advance!
Now in its fifth year, the festival has become synonymous with laid-back music, classic Shakespeare, compelling cinema and quirky theatre productions for the whole family. So why not settle for the evening in the luscious Tuckwell Amphitheatre, with a glass of iced cider, a bulging hamper, a comfy chair, and a warm rug and enjoy the best of summer entertainment?
Tickets are now on sale for the Open-Air Theatre Festival 2008
15th July -1st August
Following previous sell-out performances of Jazz on a Summer’s Evening, this year Peter Gill and Friends will treat audiences to two helpings of blues and boogie: Opening the festival with an evening of cool jazz and returning for More Jazz on a Summer’s Evening on the closing night, including the magnificent firework finale. We have a sumptuous rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by Heartbreak Productions; Miracle Theatre will stun audiences of all ages with their highly physical adaptation of the classic Greek legend, Jason; Chapterhouse Theatre present Sleeping Beauty a colourful show for young audiences, including a costume parade for budding princes and princesses; and open-air film fanatics are in for two very different cinema experiences with the iconic Summer Holiday [U] and Brick Lane [15].
Ok, so the weather wasn’t exactly sizzling last year, but even in the face of extreme weather conditions we are really proud that not a single event was cancelled. So with the promise of fine weather this year and another quality line-up we are really excited to get stuck into the Open-air Theatre Festival 2008.
See you there!

P.S. Please come prepared for the evening chill factor and bring your own seating. Grounds open 1 ½ hours before each event for picnics.
